REGULATIONS

1st International Contest Exhibition of Students’ and Young Artists’ Creative Works

ART VLADIVOSTOK

(June 20 – July 5, 2009)

            The Far Eastern State Academy of the Arts organises a contest exhibition of students’ and young artists’ creative works. Its task is to develop and maintain the domestic system of artistic education, to stimulate students to further development of their abilities, to reveal and support young talents, to strengthen and develop the traditions of the Russian painting school, to preserve the cultural environment, as well as to encourage creative contacts and artistic exchange between Russian and foreign students.

Conditions

1. Participation

Participants of the contest exhibitor may be students of Art Schools of the Russian Far East, Siberia, and the Asia Pacific Region: China, Korea, and Japan.

2. Age Categories:

1st Age Category: 15 – 21 years

2nd Age Category: 22 – 35 years

3. Nominations: Drawing, Painting

Drawing

1st Age Category:

A Still Life

A Portrait

A Free Composition

The size should be within the format A2.

Materials: pencil, charcoal, sanguine, etc.

The participants are to present only one work of each genre (totally three in number.)

2nd Age Category:

A human figure (nude or clothed)

A Free Composition

The size should be within the format A1.

Materials: pencil, charcoal, sanguine, etc.

The participants are to present only one work of each genre (totally two in number.)

Painting

1st Age Category:

A Still Life

The size should be within 70 cm on its greater side

Materials: oil, acryl, gouache, distemper.

Only one work is to be presented.

2nd Age Category:

A Free Composition

The size should be within 150 cm on its greater side

Materials: oil, acryl, distemper.

Only one work is to be presented.

4. The contest will be held in three rounds:

The 1st round is to be held at Arts Schools and Colleges attended by the participants or any other art organisations, where the young artists work. The selected works are to be sent to the contest.

The 2nd round: the selection of the sent works by the members of the jury to present them at the exhibition.

The 3rd round: the exhibition and determination of winners.

5. The Results of the Contest Exhibition and Awards

The works will be judged by a professional jury. Winners will be determined in two age categories and in two nominations: drawing and painting. The awards are “Grand-Prix”, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Award and Diploma Holder (4th Award).

Winners will be awarded with diplomas and prizes; their teachers will be awarded with certificates of distinction.

6. Estimation Criteria: professional skill and artistic expressiveness.

Ten mark system is adopted to evaluate the works.

7. Requirements on Works

i. Canvases should have a grey frame 5 x 25 mm of size. Drawings: passe-partout.

ii. The participants pay for the shipment of their works in both directions. Package and dispatch of the works from Vladivostok is to be secured by the Organizational Committee.

iii. All the works should have a description in Russian or English: a label 7 x 3 cm in the left low corner should contain the following information:

a.       the title

b.      the year of appearance

c.       the technique

d.      the size

e.       the full name of the artist

f.       the nomination

g.      the age category

h.      the city and the country

i.        the name of the school or organisation

The data should agree with those of the application form, which is attached.

8. Expenses

The organisers bear all expenses to hold the exhibition and publish the catalogue. The representatives of art schools and colleges are invited to participate in the event, whereas the participants themselves may be present at the contest at their will. Trip expenses are at the participants’ cost. The catalogues of the contest exhibition will be sent to the participants of the 2nd round.

The deadline for the works and applications is May 1, 2009. The works sent after the date will not be accepted. The catalogue will contain all the works selected by the jury for the 2nd round.

9. Dates and Schedule

May 1 – June 20

The 2nd round (the selection of the works by the jury, the publication of the catalogue).

June 25

The inauguration of the exhibition, the ceremony of awarding winners.

July 5

The exhibition closing.
